Beta Scalp Application

Beta Scalp Application (Betamethasone Valerate) is a topical corticosteroid medication prescribed to treat patients suffering from psoriasis of the scalp or seborrhoeic dermatitis. It works by suppressing the release of prostaglandins to reduce symptoms associated with these conditions such as pain, irritation, or swelling.

Even though it is meant to be used on the skin, it should not be applied to sensitive areas such as the groin, face, or underarms. Your doctor may prescribe it along with other medications or to treat other unlisted conditions.

Strictly use this medication as prescribed and follow all instructions provided by your doctor. Safe, suitable, and optimum dosage can vary and is dependent on the patient`s health and medical history, as well as the condition you are treating.

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before each use to remove any contaminants. Put a small amount of medication on your finger and apply it to the area of the scalp being treated. It may be rubbed in, but a thin layer of ointment should be left to air dry. Wash your hands with soap and water after application to prevent the medicine from contacting any areas not being treated such as the eyes, ears, mouth, or other mucous membranes. You are also suggested to administer the doses at the same times each day to keep a consistent level of medicine on the skin for the most efficient results.

Side effects that may occur during treatment include:

• Skin burning, irritation, or itching
• Thinning skin, easier bruising, or increased bleeding
• Allergic swelling of the skin
• Changes in skin colour
• Excessive hair growth at the site of application
