Description

Uses

Calutide (Bicalutamide) is used as a treatment for stage D2 metastatic prostate cancer. It is not used alone, but rather combined with a different medicine known as LHRH (luteinizing hormone releasing hormone analog). The active ingredient contained in this medicine is classified as a non-steroidal anti-androgen, and it works by attaching to the androgen receptors, thereby blocking the action of androgens (types of hormones which include testosterone). Prostate cancer grows when exposed to testosterone, and counteracting the effects of androgens helps to prevent the cancer cells from further growth.

Dosage and Administration

Calutide (Bicalutamide) comes in the form of 50mg tablets for oral administration. Your physician will provide all the necessary instructions relating to the correct dosage. Adults may be told to take 1 tablet per day, either in the morning or at night. It should be administered at a consistent time every day. The dosage required for the LHRH analog will be calculated by your physician, however treatment with the LHRH will generally commence simultaneously with bicalutamide. Make sure that you strictly comply with all the dosage instructions given by the physician.
