EllaOne (Ulipristal Acetate) is for emergency contraception will be use within 120 hours (within 5 days) after an unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure. It has been shown to prevent about 60% of expected pregnancies, and prevents more pregnancies than emergency contraception with levonorgestrel.

This should be taken as soon as possible after sex. Also it can be taken at anytime in the menstrual cycle. However, it should not be used as a regular method of contraception.

EllaOne is suitable for any woman of childbearing age, including adolescents.

Ellaone contains 1 tablet in a pack can be taking one at a time in your cycle; within 120 hours after an unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure. This medication contains 30mg of the active ingredient (ulipristal acetate) which acts by modifying the activity of the natural hormone progesterone which is necessary for ovulation to occur. As a result, EllaOne works by postponing ovulation to prevent a pregnancy from starting. However, if you are already pregnant, it will not interrupt an existing pregnancy. Possible common side effects of EllaOne (Ulipristal Acetate) include:

• Headache, Dizziness
• Muscle Pain, Back Pain,
• Fatigue or Tiredness
• Breast tenderness
• Nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort
• Vomiting or Diarrhoea
• Depression or Sleeping trouble

If your period is late or have symptoms of pregnancy (morning sickness, heavy breast) before taking EllaOne, you may already be pregnant, please do a pregnancy test  in order to make sure you are not already pregnant. Do not take this drug if you are already pregnant or think you are pregnant. This drug is not for use to end an existing pregnancy. Also you must tell your Doctor or Pharmacist if you are suffering from severe asthma or liver disease.

Do not use this drug more than one time in the same menstrual cycle.

If you are suffering asthma or liver disease. Other possible symptoms include difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, swelling, chest tightness, skin rashes, and hives.

EllaOne contains lactose, if you have an intolerance to some sugars, please consult with you professional healthcare or Doctor for advice.

After taking this drug, you may have your next menstrual period a few days earlier or later than expected. If your period is more than 7 days later than expected, you should get a pregnancy test and follow up with your doctor.

Do not use this drug while breastfeeding. If you want to breastfeed after taking this drug, wait one week and express and discard your breast milk during that week in order to stimulate lactation.
