Nilitis

Nilitis (Nabumetone) is indicated for the relief of pain and swelling. It may also reduce fever. This medicine is classified as an NSAID and its mechanism of action is said to be the inhibition of the process in which prostaglandins (lipid compounds that can trigger pain and inflammation) are synthesized. Conditions for which this medicine is indicated include rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, so as to lessen pain caused by these musculoskeletal disorders. In some cases, patients may be treated with it for other conditions.

Nilitis (Nabumetone) tablets each contain 500mg of the main medicinal ingredient and are administered by mouth. This medicine is a prodrug and is biotransformed into its active component after ingestion. Your physician will decide upon the required dosage, and individual circumstances will need to be taken into account. Some patients treating rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis may be directed to begin with 1000mg per day, however this may vary from patient to patient. Therefore it is important to only take the dosage that your physician calculates for you.

Nilitis (Nabumetone) could cause side effects. Tell your physician if this occurs, as treatment may be required. Some possible side effects include:

• Vertigo
• Insomnia
• Digestive disturbances
• Hearing a buzzing noise
• Perspiring at an increased rate

Other more serious adverse events requiring medical care straight away can also occur, however, this is usually said to be less common. Consult a physician or attend the hospital immediately if you notice coughing up blood, sudden and unusual body weight gain, fever, feeling tired or without energy, bruises on the skin or any other severe reactions that have not been referenced in this paragraph.

Nilitis (Nabumetone) could cause ulceration or stomach bleeding which has the potential to be serious. Ensure that you discuss the risks of treatment with your physician before starting treatment with this medication.

Stay out of the sun when possible, and if you must go out, make sure that you take steps to protect your skin. This is because the medicine can make your skin more sensitive to the light of the sun, leading to an increased risk of sunburn.
