Nizoral

Nizoral (Ketoconazole) is available as tablets or a topical cream. The cream is used to treat fungal infections such as athletes foot, tinea, ringworm and thrush infections of the skin. The tablets for the treatment of systemic fungal infections, fungal fingernail or toenail infections, candidiasis and other conditions.

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using Nizoral (Ketoconazole). Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.

Some patients using the cream may be told to apply it topically, once daily for 2 to 4 weeks for most skin conditions until a few days after the disappearance of all symptoms. The treatment should be re-assessed if there is no improvement after 4 weeks of therapy. The cream should never be ingested.

Patients using the tablet form of this medicine will need to follow the dosage instructions provided by their physician. The recommended dosage should never be exceeded.

Nizoral (Ketoconazole) may cause some side effects. Patients using the topical cream may notice some symptoms where it is applied, they include

• Inflammation
• Irritation
• Redness
• Stinging
• Burning sensation

Serious reactions will require immediate medical treatment.

The tablet form of this medicine may also cause reactions. Examples include:

• Itching (pruritus)
• Abdominal pain
• Nausea and vomiting
• Decreased sperm count (oligospermia)
• Headache
• Rash
• Hair loss (alopecia)
• Abnormal enlargement of breasts in men (gynaecomastia)
• Severe swelling of lips, face or tongue (angioedema)
• Dizziness
• Serious liver damage that may very rarely be fatal

If you are using the cream for of this medicine, make sure that the infected area is kept clean so that re-infection does not occur. Never ingest the cream.

Nizoral (Ketoconazole) tablets should not to be used in patients with life long inherited blood diseases which can cause a variety of symptoms, including mental health problems (porphyrias) or liver disease.
