Description

Uses

Nocodoxy (Doxycycline HCL) is classified as a tetracycline antibiotic, and it works by inhibiting the protein synthesis of the bacteria. This is achieved by attaching to the 30S ribosomal subunit (the area at which the bacteria synthesize their proteins). The subsequent lack of essential proteins means that the bacteria are no longer able to grow and replicate, and any leftover microorganisms are dealt with by the immune system. Experts refer to this as bacteriostatic activity, meaning that the replication of the bacteria is blocked. Gram positive and negative bacteria are affected by this medicine.

A wide range of medical conditions caused by susceptible bacteria are treated with this antibiotic, including bronchitis, gonorrhea, Chlamydia, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, rocky mountain spotted fever, typhus fever, trachoma and many others not listed here. It is also widely used for acne, and many physicians recommend it for malaria prophylaxis (prevention) in travelers who are visiting an area in which malaria can be contracted.

Dosage and Administration

Nocodoxy (Doxycycline HCL) comes in capsule form. The amount of medicine contained in each of the capsules is 100mg. Individualization of the dosage schedule will be necessary in all cases, and the amount you are required to take every day, (as well as the duration of treatment) will be decided upon by the physician responsible for treatment, after a thorough evaluation of the symptoms has taken place. In general, the dosage for this medicine differs to that of other tetracycline antibiotics. Some patients affected by uncomplicated infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis may be instructed to take 100mg orally, twice per day, for a period of 7 days. In other cases, patients may be directed to take 200mg on day 1 of treatment, after which a maintenance dosage of 100mg per day is taken for the remainder of the treatment schedule.
