Orligal

Orlistat is a weight loss drug used to help people lose weight, maintain a steady weight and prevent weight gain. It works by preventing the absorption of dietary fat into the body. Orlistat is not an appetite suppressant. Orlistat works best when combined with regular exercise and a healthy diet.

Each pack of Orligal contains 84 x 120mg capsules

Take one capsule of Orligal (Orlistat) with each of your three main meals. Swallow each capsule whole with a glass of water.

Make sure to include a healthy diet and exercise as part of your overall weight loss plan.

Orligal will only work along with an intake of dietary fat. If you miss a meal, there is no need to take that particular dose of Orlistat.

If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction (hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat) while taking to orlistat, contact your doctor or seek medical attention immediately.

The following are severe side effects that can affect some people taking Orlistat. If you experience any of the following, stop using orlistat and call your doctor immediately:

• severe pain in your lower back
• blood in your urine, painful or difficult urination
• kidney problems such as little or no urinating; swelling in your feet or ankles; feeling tired or short of breath
• liver problems such as nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)

The more common side effects of orlistat are due to its fat-blocking mechanism of action. These side effects are signs that the medicine is working properly, and are usually temporary and may lessen as you continue using orlistat:

• oily or fatty stools
• oily spotting in your undergarments
• orange or brown colored oil in your stool
• gas and oily discharge
• loose stools, or an urgent need to go to the bathroom, inability to control bowel movements
• an increased number of bowel movements
• stomach pain, nausea, rectal pain

If any of the above become a problem to you or do not go away over time, contact your doctor.

You must not take Orligal if:

• you are allergic to orlistat
• you have a condition that prevent you from absorbing nutrients properly
• you are pregnant

Before you take Orligal (Orlistat), let your doctor know if you have any of the following:

• liver disease
• kidney disease
• a history of gallstones or kidney stones
• underactive thyroid
• a history of pancreatitis
• type 1 or type 2 diabetes
• an eating disorder (anorexia or bulimia)

Also tell your doctor of all weight-loss medications (prescription or over-the-counter) that you are taking.

Orlistat is suitable for adults only.

If you also take cyclosporine, do not take it within 3 hours before or 3 hours after you take orlistat.

If you also take levothyroxine (such as Synthroid), do not take it within 4 hours before or 4 hours after you take orlistat.
