Posmeal

Posmeal MD (Voglibose) is an oral hypoglycemic medication, a competitive inhibitor of intestinal α-glucosidases (hydrolytic enzymes), which are involved into the breakdown di-, oligo-, and polysaccharides. The inhibition of α-glucosidases leads to the slowdown in the complex carbohydrates breakdown and glucose absorption. As a result, postprandial glucose levels (postprandial hyperglycemia) go down. Posmeal MD (Voglibose) does not affect the β-glucosidase activity.

Posmeal MD (Voglibose) is poorly and slowly absorbed and quickly excreted in feces. As of today, there are no known metabolites of this substance found in human blood and urine. During the animal studies, the Voglibose permeation through placenta and excretion into breast milk were registered.

Posmeal MD (Voglibose) is used to:

• treat type 2 diabetes, if it`s impossible to adequately maintain blood glucose levels by means of dietary regimen and/or physical exercise; as monotherapy or as part of the combination therapy along with other oral hypoglycemic medications or insulin;
• treat type 1 diabetes as part of the combination therapy along with insulin;
• prevent type 2 diabetes in patients with the identified glucose intolerance.

Posmeal MD (Voglibose) is taken by mouth immediately before every meal, with a full glass of water.

Commonly, the initial dose of the medication prescribed to adults is 0.2mg, taken 3 times per day. If the therapeutic result is insufficient, the dose may be increased up to 0.3mg, taken 3 times per day, subject to the careful monitoring of the disease.

For elderly patients, the initial dose of the medication is 0.1mg, taken 3 times per day. If the therapeutic result is insufficient, the dose may be increased up to 0.2-0.3mg, taken 3 times per day, subject to the careful monitoring of the disease.

In case of overdose, make sure to contact you physician immediately.

• Metabolic disorders: hypoglycaemia.
• Gastro-intestinal tract: bloating, flatulence, diarrhea, bowel obstruction.
• Hepatobiliary system: fulminant hepatitis, severely impaired liver function, elevated liver transaminase levels (aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase), jaundice.

Posmeal MD (Voglibose) is contraindicated to patients suffering from the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any other component of the drug;
• Diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic precoma, diabetic coma;
• Severe infectious diseases;
• Serious surgeries and injuries;
  Bowel conditions and disorders that may worsen with excessive gas (such as inflammatory bowel disease, erosive and ulcerous bowel disorders, complete or partial intestinal obstruction, among others);
• Severe bowel conditions and disorders, accompanied by digestive disorders and impaired absorption.
