Procur

Procur is a tablet containing 50mg of the active ingredient Cyproterone Acetate. Cyproterone Acetate is a an anti-androgen. It can be used to treat inoperable prostate cancer in males, excess hairiness in women, and to reduce sex drive in adult males.

Procur (Cyproterone Acetate) works by blocking the actions of androgens (male sex hormones), by reducing the formation of androgens in the testes, and by reducing ovarian function in females.

Procur is a tablet-form of cyproterone acetate and is designed to be swallowed whole.

Dosages will depend on the condition and will be prescribed by your doctor. The following can be used as guidelines.

• For prostate cancer: 50mg - 300mg daily
• For reduction of sex drive: 50mg twice daily.
• For women: 100mg per day from Day 1 to Day 10 of the menstrual cycle (taken in conjuction with a contraceptive pill).

Procur is generally well-tolerated, but some unwanted side effects can occur. Tell your doctor if you feel unwell when taking Procur.

Some side effects could be serious. You should notify your doctor immediately if you experience:

• stomach discomfort or pain
• shortness of breath
• yellow skin and/or eyes (jaundice)
• dark coloured urine
• persistent or recurrent bleeding occurring at irregular intervals

More common side effects that should be more mild may include:

• tiredness or weakness
• depresssion
• temporary inner restlessness
• changes in body weight

Procur may not be suitable for use by some people. Before beginning treatment make sure your doctor is aware if you:

• are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
• have any form of liver disease
• have jaundice or have had it in the past
• have herpes or have had it in the past
• have suffered depression or other mental illness
• have experienced blood clots
• suffer from diabetes
• have an abnormal red blood cell count
