Prostatan (Saw Palmetto Extract/Pumpkin Seed Extract/Nettle Extract/Lycopene/Zinc) is a dietary supplement comprised of plant and seed extracts, as well as minerals. Men with urination problems related to the prostate gland (such as BPH) may benefit from it. These capsules contain 320mg of an extract from the fruit of a species of palm known as saw palmetto (serenoa repens).

This may reduce the amount of testosterone and DHT that reaches the prostate, resulting in decreased androgen stimulation and relief from BPH symptoms. Other ingredients include pumpkin seed extract, lycopene (a natural pigment with antioxidant benefits found in tomatoes) and zinc chelate. Many people believe that there may be a link between low zinc levels and BPH.

Prostatan (Saw Palmetto Extract/Pumpkin Seed Extract/Nettle Extract/Lycopene/Zinc) capsules are taken by mouth. You will be given dosage instructions by your physician. Men with BPH who are taking this supplement are sometimes told to take a dosage consisting of a single capsule administered 2 times daily. Do not take more than the recommended dosage.

Prostatan (Saw Palmetto Extract/Pumpkin Seed Extract/Nettle Extract/Lycopene/Zinc) may cause:

• Sweating
• Dizzy sensation
• Changes in libido
• Constipation or diarrhea
• Mild digestive reactions

While you are taking this supplement, it is important that your physician is notified if you are bothered by any reactions that occur. Although uncommon, serious side effects might occur. You will need medical care immediately if this happens.

Saw palmetto extract might affect the liver or pancreas in some patients. However, this is not considered common.

Stinging nettle extract might cause changes in blood sugar levels or blood pressure. Patients with kidney problems should note that due to the diuretic effect, caution will need to be exercised.
