Tavin-EM

Tavin-EM tablets are a classifed as a nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI). It contains two different medicines (emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) combined into one pill. Tavin-EM is part of a treatment plan for HIV-1 infection in adults and teenagers (12 and older).

HIV infects CD4 cells (also called T cells) in the body. These cells are important in fighting infection. Once HIV is contracted, the virus multiplies inside these cells and the subsequent viruses are then released into the blood and infect other CD4 cells.

Tavin-EM tablets inhibit the action of the viral-specific enzyme reverse transcriptase (RT). This makes it more difficult for the HIV-1 virus to multiply. Because the replication has been slowed there is a reduced viral load (redcued amount of HIV virus in the blood). When used with other anti-retrovirals, Tavin-EM can also help increase the number of CD4 cells in the body.

Tavin-EM can be used as a treatment for patients who have already contracted HIV, or can help reduce the risk of contracting HIV in high-risk adults.

Tavin-EM is packaged as a bottle of 30 tablets. Each tablet contains 200mg of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and 300mg of emtricitabine.

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food.

Take only the prescribed dosage (usually one tablet each day), and continue to do so for as long as recommended by your doctor. A sudden stop in taking Tavin-EM can increase HIV resistance.

Tell your doctor immediately if Tavin-EM causes any of the following:

• blisters under the skin
• rash with flat lesions or small raised lesions on the skin
• redness of the skin
• skin rash, itching skin, hives or welts
• spots on your skin resembling a blister or pimple

Other serious side effects you may develop when taking Tavin-EM include:

• Lactic Acidosis
• Liver Problems
• Worsening of Hepatitis B Infection

• lack of strength or loss of strength
• passing of gas
• weight loss
• acid or sour stomach
• back pain
• belching
• difficulty with moving
• discouragement
• feeling sad or empty
• heartburn
• increased cough
• joint pain
• loss of interest or pleasure
• muscle aching or cramping
• muscle pain or stiffness
• pain
• runny nose
• stomach upset
• stuffy nose
• sweating
• swollen joints
• tiredness
• trouble concentrating
• trouble sleeping
