Topirol

Topirol (Topiramate) is prescribed to help control some types of seizures caused by epilepsy. Note that this medication cannot cure epilepsy and will only help to control seizures. It operates by preventing unusual nerve impulses in the brain to stop seizures from occurring.

Topirol (Topiramate) should be taken according to your physician`s instructions to get the best results from treatment. One tablet is normally taken twice each day, but your individual directions will depend on your health condition and the severity of your symptoms. These should be swallowed with a large glass of water and may be taken with or without food. Never split or chew the tablets before use to avoid destroying or altering the effects of their contents.

Side effects that have been reported by some patients using Topirol (Topiramate) include:

• Dizziness
• Numbness
• Flushing of the skin
• Diarrhea
• Cold or flu symptoms

Serious side effects that may require emergency medical attention are fever, severe pain, vomiting, confusion, vision problems, or signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling, rashes, or difficulty breathing.

Topirol (Topiramate) should not be used to treat patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or lactose intolerant. Also inform your physician if you have a history of depression, breathing disorders, porphyrias, a history of kidney stones, or reduced liver or kidney function as these conditions may cause unexpected problems during treatment.
