Univent Nasal Spray (Ipratropium) is used to treat symptoms associated with colds or allergies such as a runny nose or general nasal congestion. The medication operates by being absorbed into the nasal lining and reducing the amount of mucus being produced.

Univent Nasal Spray (Ipratropium) should be used according to your physician`s instructions to get the most effective results from treatment. The normal dosage is one or two sprays per nostril administered two to four times each day depending on the severity of your symptoms. To use the medication remove the cap from the nozzle, insert it into the nostril being treated, and inhale while operating the pump to dispense one spray. If you are required to administer more than one spray it is suggested to alternate nostrils to prevent irritation.

Side effects that may occur while using Univent Nasal Spray (Ipratropium) include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Sore or dry throat
• Headaches
• Nasal congestion
• Nose bleed(s)

The following side effects are rarer but more serious and require prompt medical attention:

• Eye pains
• Wheezing
• Changes to your heart rate
• Changes to your urination
• Changes to your eyesight

If you suffer an allergic reaction seek emergency medical attention. Possible signs of an allergic reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, chest pains, swelling of the face or limbs, hives, or skin rashes.

Do not use Univent Nasal Spray (Ipratropium) if you are allergic to atropine. Also inform your physician if you have cystic fibrosis, an enlarged prostate, narrow angle glaucoma, or difficulty urinating as these conditions may cause unexpected problems during treatment.
