Zytix

Zytix (Abiraterone Acetate) is used along with prednisone in the treatment of certain cases of prostate cancer. It is indicated in cases where medical or surgical treatments that lower testosterone have not been sucessful and the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

Zytix comes in a pack of 6 tablets, each containing 250mg of the active ingredient Abiraterone Acetate.

Take only the dosage that has been prescribed by your doctor and try to take this at the same time each day.

Zytix must be taken on an empty stomach (ie. at least two hours after and at least one hour before taking food).

Swallow Zytix tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablets.

Zytix may cause include hypertension (high blood pressure), hypoklaemia (low blood potassium levels), and edema (fluid retention). Tell your doctor immediate if you notice:

• dizziness
• fast heartbeats
• feeling faint or lightheaded
• headache
• confusion
• muscle weakness
• leg pain
• swelling in your legs or feet

Adrenal problems may develop if you stop taking prednisone along with Zytix, if you get an infection, or if you are under a lot of stress.

In some cases liver damage or liver failure can occur. You should schedule regular liver function tests with your doctor, and tell them if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of the urine or severe nausea and/or vomiting.

More common side effects that have been reported with Abiraterone Acetate include:

• Weakness
• joint swelling or pain
• swelling in your legs or feet
• hot flushes
• diarrhea
• vomiting
• cough
• high blood pressure
• shortness of breath
• urinary tract infection
• bruising
• low red blood cells (anemia) and low blood potassium levels
• high blood sugar levels, high blood cholesterol and triglycerides
• certain other abnormal blood tests

Before beginning treatment with Zytix, it is important that your doctor is aware if you have:

• heart problems
• liver problems
• a history of adrenal problems
• a history of pituitary problems
• any other medical conditions

You should also tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. You must not take Abiraterone is you are pregnant or may become pregnant. If you are pregnant, do not touch Zytix unless wearing gloves.

Also tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Men taking Zytix must wear a condom during sexual activity with a woman while taking Zytix and for at least one week after taking it. If the female sexual partner may become pregnant while using a condom, another form of contraception must also be used.
