Description

Uses

Aerius (Desloratadine) is taken as a treatment for symptoms of hay fever (allergic rhinitis) and year round allergic rhinitis. In addition to this, it may be used for urticaria. This medicine is an antihistamine, which works by diminishing the effects of a natural chemical in the body (histamine). This chemical is responsible for causing sneezing, watering of the eyes, a runny nose and other allergy symptoms. Reducing its action helps to treat these symptoms.

Dosage and Administration

Before you take Aerius (Desloratadine) tablets, you will need to visit your physician, so that you can be told the right amount to take. Under no circumstances should the prescribed dosage be exceeded. The majority of adults taking this medication are directed to take a dose consisting of 5mg, once per day.

Side effects

Aerius (Desloratadine) may cause:

  • Drowsiness
  • Stomach upset
  • Menstrual period pain
  • Pain affecting the muscles
  • Coughing, sore throat or a dry mouth

Notify your physician if you are concerned about side effects. Even though the active ingredient in this drug is considered to be a non-drowsy antihistamine, there is still a slight chance that drowsiness will occur. Remember that in rare cases, serious side effects can occur. You must immediately seek medical attention if you experience any signs of a severe reaction.

Precautions

Bear in mind that if you are scheduled to have a skin prick test (to diagnose allergies), it may be necessary to cease taking any antihistamine medication for at least 48 hours prior to the test, as these medications can interfere with the test results.

Before you take this medicine, it is necessary to notify your physician if you have a history of kidney disease or liver disease.
