Nasonex Nasal Spray (Mometasone Aqueous) ameliorates and controls the symptoms of allergies by affecting the cells that cause inflammation in the nasal passages. Indications include seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), year round allergies and nasal polyps. Its active component is an intranasal corticosteroid which exhibits significant anti inflammatory effects.

By acting on lymphocytes, neutrophils and mast cells, and affecting mediators of inflammation (such as histamine and leukotrienes), it can reduce the allergic reaction and alleviate nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, itching, sneezing, discomfort in the sinus and other late-phase allergic responses. Experts have also theorized that a sufficient concentration of the medicine in the nasal mucosa plays a key role in its action.

Patients have also been treated with it for the prophylaxis (prevention) of outdoor allergic rhinitis. Some physicians have treated patients for sinusitis with this spray and an antibiotic. Multiple medical studies have been conducted to explore other potential effects, such as the reduction of snoring and the treatment of adenoid hypertrophy symptoms (such as coughing).

Nasonex Nasal Spray (Mometasone Aqueous) comes as a suspension which is sprayed directly into the nose. Each spray delivers 50mcg of the medicine. As a general rule, it should be applied at the exact same time each day, so as to provide the most effective results. Adults treating the nasal symptoms caused by allergic rhinitis or congestion from hay fever may be told by their physician to deliver 2 sprays of the suspension into each of the nostrils once per day (every 24 hours).

The dosage regimen needed for other conditions may differ. Physicians normally recommend the commencement of treatment 2 to 4 weeks before the start of the allergy season (if used for seasonal rhinitis). • Headache
• Nose bleeds
• Throat irritation
• Irritated feeling in the nose

Prompt reporting of side effects to your physician is a requirement during treatment. Patients must visit their physician immediately in the event that they notice signs of Candida infection (thrush), adrenal insufficiency or suppression, redness which affects the eyes, visual disturbances, severe fatigue or any other serious reactions that have not been referenced here.

Nasonex Nasal Spray (Mometasone Aqueous) can weaken the immune system`s response in some patients. This may affect your body`s natural defenses and could leave you susceptible to infections. Your physician will advise you to stay out of direct contact with patients who are suffering from contagious infections.

There is a risk of cataracts or glaucoma associated with this medicine. Ask your physician about this before commencing treatment.
