Anabrez

Anabrez (Anastrozole) treats breast cancer by reducing the biosynthesis of estrogen, a hormone which can stimulate the growth and spread of this disease. The active ingredient in these tablets is classified as a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor, and a key characteristic of its mechanism of action involves inhibiting the aromatase enzyme.

In postmenopausal women, the aromatase enzyme plays a central role in the production of estrogen, due to it converting various sex hormones (testosterone and androstenedione) into estrogen. Blocking the activity of the aromatase enzyme prevents this conversion process, resulting in decreased estrogen levels. Reducing the amount of estrogen in the body therefore helps prevent the growth of cancer cells in patients affected by hormone receptor positive breast cancer.

Anabrez (Anastrozole) tablets are taken by mouth. Post menopausal women who are using this medicine as a first line treatment for hormone receptor positive (or unknown) breast cancer may be directed by their physician to administer 1mg (equal to one tablet) per day. The duration of treatment may differ based on individual circumstances, and in most cases, physicians will instruct patients to continue treatment until signs of tumor progression are evident. Strict compliance with the physician`s instructions will be required in all cases.

If any side effects occur while using Anabrez (Anastrozole) for the treatment of breast cancer or any other conditions, ensure that you inform the physician in charge of treatment. Examples can include:

• Hot flashes
• Vaginal symptoms
• Thinning of the hair
• Painful and stiff joints
• Soreness affecting the back or bones

It will be necessary to see a physician straight away if you notice visual problems, soreness when urinating, lesions or blisters appearing on the skin, sudden increases in body weight, serious stomach pain or any other severe adverse events that have not been referenced here.

Anabrez (Anastrozole) is generally only used for the treatment of postmenopausal women, especially if the symptoms have progressed after taking other medicines. It should not be taken by pregnant women.
