Description

Uses

Ichmune C contains Cyclosporine, an immunosuppressant indicated in the treatment of atopic dermatitis in dogs. It works by supressing certain cells in the immune system that cause allergic reactions. It is also used to treat perianal fistulae (inflammation, ulceration and draining sinuses around the anus) in dogs.

Dosage and Administration

Ichmune C (Cyclosporine) is usually prescribed at a dosage of 5mg per kg of body weight. They will usually be given on a daily basis until significant improvement is seen. This usually takes around 4 weeks. In some cases maintenance treatment will be prescribed every second or third day. If no improvement is seen in 8 weeks, treatment should be stopped and alternative treatments looked into. Ichmune C is most effective when given at least one hour before or two hours after eating.

Side effects

Side effects while taking Ichmune C (Cyclosporine) are uncommon. Your dog may develop gastrointestinal problems such as vomitting or diarrhea. Other side effects may include lethargy or hyperactivity, anorexia, mild to moderate gingival hyperplasia, skin reactions such as verruciform lesions or change of hair coat, red and swollen pinnae, muscle weakness or muscle cramps.

Precautions

Ichmune C (Cyclosporine) should not be used in dogs who have had neoplasia, who are allergic to Cyclosporine, or who have a malignant disorder or progressive malignant disorder.

Dogs should not be vaccinated during treatment, or for at least two weeks before or after treatment.

Because of Cyclosporine`s immunosuppressant nature, it may make your dog more susceptible to infection and development of neoplasia.
