Ipakitine

Ipakitine is used in cats and dogs with kidney failure or chronic kidney disease. Cats and dogs with kidney failure can benefit from a reduction in phosphates. Ipakitine acts as a phosphate binding agent and reduces the amount of phophate taken up in the intestines. This can mimic the effect of a phosphate-reduced diet or enhance a phosphate-reduced diet. Ipakitine can also decrease the absorption of some uraemic toxins.

Ipakitine comes in a bottle with 180g of powder. It also includes a scoop to make dosing easier. Each level scoop holds 1g of powder.

A general dosageguideline is 1g per kg of body weight given twice daily. You can use the following as a guideline:

• 3-5 kg: 2 level scoops per day
• 10 kg : 4 level scoops per day
• 15 kg: 6 level scoops per day
• 20 kg: 8 level scoops per day

The powder can be mixed in with the pet`s food.

During a 35-day trial of Ipakitine, biological parameters remained within normal levels.
