Melalong

Melalong (Hydroquinone/Mequinol/Tretinoin) is used to treat melasma. It helps to reverse hyperpigmentation by whitening darkened patches of skin. Dermatologists have also recommended its use to some patients for the bleaching of skin affected by age spots, chloasma and freckles when these conditions are caused by hormonal problems, exposure to the sun or other factors. Hydroquinone is widely used in dermatology as a treatment for hyperpigmentory disorders.

Experts believe that its depigmenting activity is due to it functioning as a substrate of tyrosinase (an oxidase which is involved in the production of the pigment melanin) and affecting the active melanocytes. As a result of this, it is able to effectively inhibit melanogenesis (the process in which melanin is synthesized). The reduction in pigments leads to lightening of darkened skin patches. Tretinoin, which is vitamin A in its carboxylic acid form helps boost skin renewal and exfoliation. Many people have used it for treating acne, and it can also help decrease wrinkles and fine lines.

Melalong (Hydroquinone/Mequinol/Tretinoin) comes in the form of a cream which is applied directly to the skin requiring depigmentation. Patients should avoid getting the cream on skin which is not meant to be bleached (such as the skin surrounding the affected area). Consult your physician if you are affected by hyperpigmentation, so that the most suitable form of treatment can be decided, and a proper dosing schedule calculated accordingly. Apply the cream as directed by your physician, and ensure that you comply with all instructions given by your physician. Never apply more than the recommended amount.

If you experience side effects during the course of treatment with Melalong (Hydroquinone/Mequinol/Tretinoin) cream, ensure that you make your physician aware of this. Possible examples include:

• Pruritis
• Redness
• Burning sensation
• Sensitivity to light
• Irritation of the treated area

Cease treatment and see a physician immediately if you suffer from blue discolored skin, blisters, severe pain, bleeding visible on the skin, oozing or any other severe adverse events which have not been referenced here.

Melalong (Hydroquinone/Mequinol/Tretinoin) cream is intended for topical use only and must never be consumed orally. Immediate medical attention will be needed should accidental ingestion occur.

Do not allow any of this medicine to get into the eyes or mucous membranes. Also, avoid using it on damaged or irritated skin. Some skin products may not be suitable during treatment, and you should discuss this with your physician.

If your symptoms do not appear to show any signs of improvement after 2 months (or possibly less), it is possible that your physician will recommend alternative forms of treatment for your condition.
