Uses

Orbax (Orbifloxacin) Oral Suspension is a broad-spectrum antibacterial drug used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs) and soft tissue infections in dogs. It can also be used to treat skin infections in dogs or cats.

Dosage and Administration

For dogs: the dosage will be 1.1 to 3.4 mg/lb (2.5 to 7.5 mg/kg) of the dog`s body weight daily, depending on the nature and severtiy of the infection. Your vet will determine this.

For cats: the dosage is 3.4 mg/lb (7.5 mg/kg) of body weight daily.

In most cases the dose should be given for two to three days after clinical signs and symptoms have disappeared. If treating a urinary tract infection the dose should be taken for approximately ten days.

To apply Orbax Oral Suspension remove the cap and attach the included syringe adaptor before withdrawing the necessary quantity of suspension into the syringe. The suspension can then be injected into the pets mouth. Skake well before use rinse the syringe after use.

Side effects

Possible side effects in dogs: vomiting, convulsions, depression, lethargy, anorexia

Possible side effects in cats: blindness, mydriasis, anorexia, ataxia, depression/lethargy, vomiting, convulsions, abnormal retina, hypersalivation

Precautions

Orbifloxacin can cause arthropathy in immature pets, particularly dogs. Orbifloxacin is contraindicated in dogs going through the rapid growth stage (between 2 and 8 months of age in small and medium-sized breeds, and up to 18 months of age in large and giant breeds).

Orbax Oral Suspension is to be given to dogs and cats only. It is not suitable for human use.

Some cats have been known to develop problems with the retina after use of fluoroquinolones. Use with cautions in cats and make sure not to exceed the dosages prescribed.

Use Orbifloxacin with caution in any pets with CNS disorders.
