Silybon

Silybon (Silymarin) is made using an extract from the seeds a plant called the milk thistle (silybum marianum). It is widely believed to have hepatoprotective benefits, which means that it may work by guarding the cells in the liver from toxins. This complex is made up of polyphenols (know to have antioxidant properties) and flavonolignans that have various positive benefits on the immune system and the treatment of inflammation and infection. Patients affected by alcoholism have taken it to help with their liver, especially if alcohol damage has occurred. Cirrhosis and gallbladder problems have also been treated with it.

Silybon (Silymarin) comes in tablet form, and there are 70mg and 140mg strength versions available. Patients must only take the correct amount of tablets as decided upon by the physician treating them. The recommended daily dosage for treating liver problems or any other conditions must not be exceeded.
