TMP

TMP (Trimethoprim) belongs to a group of medicines known as antibiotics. This medicine is used to treat and prevent infections of the urinary tract caused by bacteria. It works by stopping the growth of the bacteria that is causing your infection.

The usual dose for treating urinary tract infections is 300mg once a day. The usual dose for preventing urinary tract infections is 100mg once a day. Your physician will tell you how much TMP (Trimethoprim) you need to take each day. It is important that you take it as directed by your physician. Do not take more than the recommended dose.

Possible side effects of TMP (Trimethoprim) include:

• stomach upset
• nausea
• vomiting
• sore throat, mouth or tongue
• mouth ulcers
• skin rash, redness or itching
• tiredness
• headaches
• weight loss
• yellowing of the eyes or skin
• fever
• chills

Before you take TMP (Trimethoprim), tell your physician if you have a folate deficiency, kidney problems, liver problems, blood disorder, or you are pregnant or currently breastfeeding. Always tell your physician or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including any you get without a prescription from a pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.
