Valdoxan

Valdoxan (Agomelatine) is an antidepressant which works by correcting the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain. It is classified as metalonergic antidepressant, and it also acts on the 5-HT2C (serotonin) receptors. In the brain, the release of a chemical known as melatonin helps to control the body`s natural sleeping and waking cycles (referred to as circadian rhythm). A disruption of this rhythm may occur in patients with depression. By affecting the receptors that melatonin acts on MT1 and 2), this medicine can help to restore the normal sleep cycles in depressed patients. The effects on the other receptors can also improve the mood.

Valdoxan (Agomelatine) tablets contain 25mg of the main ingredient. The dosage will be determined by your physician based on your individual requirements. Usually, the medicine is taken before bed, alongside water. Adult patients being treated for depression are sometimes instructed by their physician to take one tablet per day. However, some patients may be directed to take 2 tablets (50mg) every day. Due to the potential differences in dosage regimens, patients must strictly comply with the directions provided by the physician.

The use of Valdoxan (Agomelatine) for depressive illness (or any other medical disorder) may trigger negative reactions in some patients. If you believe that you are suffering from any side effects, talk to your physician. A list consisting of some examples is given here:

Although the occurrence of less severe reactions is generally considered more common, this medicine still has the potential to cause rare and dangerous side effects which will require immediate hospital care or treatment from a physician.

Valdoxan (Agomelatine) is not suitable for use in patients who are suffering from liver disease or other hepatic problems. In addition to this, your physician may order blood tests before treatment commences, so as to check the function of the liver.

Antidepressant medicines may cause a small number of patients to suffer from a worsening of symptoms or suicidal thoughts. Contact your physician immediately if this happens.
