Cefpet

Cefpet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil) is an oral syrup prescribed to treat bacterial infections affecting dogs or cats. It operates by disrupting cell wall production to destroy sensitive bacteria cells while preventing reproduction to stop the spread of the infection allowing the immune system to destroy it naturally. This action makes it useful for treating infections affecting the lungs, urinary tract, skin, soft tissues, or upper respiratory tract (eye, ear, nose, or throat). Note that this medication should never be used to treat an infection caused by a fungus or virus. It may be used in combination with other medications or to treat other unlisted conditions.

Cefpet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil) should only be used according to your veterinarian`s instructions to get the most effective results. It is typically administered one to two times each day at the indicated dosage. The best regimen for your pet will be determined according to your symptoms, health condition, weight, and response to previous treatments. Do not attempt to change any part of these instructions on your own as this may cause unexpected health complications.

Some pets may experience side effects while using Cefpet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil). These can be mild or severe and will not occur in all pets. If you do witness any unusual symptoms, inform the veterinarian as soon as possible to make sure the correct response is taken. This may include reducing the dosage or frequency of administration to prevent further complications. If more serious health problems are indicated, emergency medical attention may also be required.

Side effects that may occur during treatment include:

More serious symptoms that may require medical attention are:

• Swelling of the extremities
• Severe diarrhea that is watery or bloody
• Discoloured urine or stools

Cefpet (Cefpodoxime Proxetil) should not be used in pets that are allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics or have had a bad reaction to similar treatments.

Inform your veterinarian if the pet has decreased kidney function as this condition may cause complications with treatment and can require reduced dosages, frequency of administration, or other adjustments to the regimen to prevent these potential problems from occurring.
