The importance of nutrition for people with cancer

What determines the body’s susceptibility to cancer – genetics or nutrition? One of the most interesting concepts of modern nutrition science – nutrigenomics – was formed on the basis of the complex influence of both factors.

Nutrigenomics studies the processes of genetic changes under the influence of the consumption of certain food products, which ultimately lead to a positive effect on health or the development of a disease in the body. Thanks to intensive research by specialists in nutrigenomics, indisputable evidence has been obtained that a healthy diet can prevent the development of cancer and even contribute to more effective treatment.

It is common knowledge that the genetic code that a person has at birth is unchanged throughout life and accurately determines the state of health throughout life. This is partially true, but it should be taken into account that numerous external factors affecting the body can change the expression of DNA over time. And even in the absence of genetic predisposition, such changes can lead to oncological diseases, including development of breast cancer. However, even if there is a clear genetic predisposition to breast cancer, not all people develop it, and fears may be unnecessary. Whether a person develops the disease or not depends on a number of factors, including the influence of the environment and its interaction with genes.

Diet, water quality, environment, air, cosmetics, medicines and detergents, that is, everything that a person comes in contact with every day and that in one way or another changes the functioning of the body, affects vital systems and genes, stimulating them positively or negatively . As a result, a hidden genetic threat can either manifest itself in the most unfavorable form or be suppressed.

Only about 5-13% of breast cancer cases are considered by experts as a hereditary disease. In the absolute majority of cases, breast cancer develops for completely different reasons, which are actively studied by numerous modern medical scientists. There are three main theories: according to the first theory, the cause is chronic inflammation, which can lead to breast cancer, the second theory is based on the fact that the cause of the disease is an excess oxidative process, and according to the third theory, it is believed that the cause of the disease can be a pathology of the immune system.

Followers of all three theories agree that diet plays an important role; you should regularly eat foods rich in antioxidants, because they prevent the development of the inflammatory process and strengthen the immune system. It is not recommended to consume such products that create favorable conditions for the development of the disease, such as fast food and fried food.

But remember that the basis of treatment is surgery, radiotherapy and drug treatment (for example, Armotraz or Fempro), prescribed by an oncologist.
