The first pregnancy: 3 fears that should be forgotten

The first pregnancy is a very exciting period in the life of every woman. She has a lot of new sensations; she worries about the unknown and a lot of different assumptions – both about the child’s gender, eye and hair color, and about phobias and fears related to the birth of a baby. Doctors named the most popular fears that expectant mothers have during their first pregnancy.

What to do with the child?

Often, before pregnancy, a woman was at work as a professional, had a lot of necessary knowledge and skills. But the same woman is not always ready to be a mother. Childbirth is just the beginning. And then there are more worries and problems. Many people do not know how to properly put on a diaper or are afraid that when bathing a child, the water will not be at the right temperature. There are also worries about feeding – if a woman cannot breastfeed – how to feed, how to prepare formula – there are more questions than answers.

In the modern world, there are almost no situations when a mother is alone with her problems. There are doctors – pediatricians, there are friends who have given birth before, these people will be able to advise and help. Mothers and mothers-in-law can also provide advice. In addition, there are special courses for future mothers – they teach all the nuances of caring for a small child.

Fear of childbirth

Having not yet felt pain, many women, listening to the stories of “experienced” people, are already afraid of pain during childbirth. Doctors note that there is pain during childbirth, but it quickly disappears after childbirth, the woman’s body quickly recovers. In addition, modern medicine has anesthetics that help to get rid of pain during childbirth and after the birth of the baby.

The child may be unhealthy

Of course, every expectant mother wants the baby to be born healthy. But statistics show that many children are born with various hereditary diseases. In addition, it is extremely difficult to diagnose diseases in such a small baby, and cases of postpartum diseases, unfortunately, are still frequent. And statistics do not matter to the mother, if there is a risk that the child has some disease, she wants the child to be healthy.

However, in the modern world there are many laboratory tests, ultrasound, which will help determine the presence or absence of certain diseases in a child. There is also prevention of many diseases. For example, all pregnant women need to take folic acid (Apo-Folic) or vitamin complexes that contain it (Elevit), this lowers the risk of birth and development complications such as neural tube defects which result in conditions like spina bifida.

You can also make an additional appointment for an ultrasound and a consultation with a doctor, with whom you can discuss your concerns.

And you should not listen to stories about terrible children’s diseases, about the infection of children with diseases in the maternity hospital. Listening to such “news” will only harm the future mother – she will psychologically exhaust herself, constantly be anxious. Remember that her condition is felt by the child; worrying, she harms him too.
